Advancing Surgical Innovation: An Introduction to a Special Series on Fluorescence Imaging

Innovation is a foundational pillar in surgery because it helps us improve care for our patients. This series demonstrates the wide-ranging uses of fluorescence imaging and how this technique improves patient outcomes. Like all products of innovation, fluorescence imaging will evolve over time. The manuscripts in this series describe the current state of fluorescence imaging by utilizing a Delphi analysis to develop statements of agreement or disagreement. While the participants in the Delphi analysis are enthusiasts of fluorescence imaging, and, therefore, subject to bias, nearly all products of innovation are initially introduced to scientific fields by proponents of the innovation.

The various Delphi survey investigate the use of fluorescence imaging in different surgical fields and during:

  • Lymphatic Surgery
  • Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery
  • Colrectal Surgery
  • Sentinel Node Mapping
