Great few days at the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) ISFGS – International Society for Fluorescence Guided Surgery Course on Fluorescence-Guided Surgery, reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting many new professionals helping drive the adoption of fluorescence-guided surgery.
The scientific program showcased the growing range of applications for fluorescence in the OR. From emerging applications such as tumor-targeted fluorescence imaging and pediatric surgery to practical discussions on dosing strategies and clinical workflows, the course highlighted both 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆.
What made this course particularly valuable was the balance between scientific presentations and hands-on sessions.
Through practical exercises with fluorescence phantoms and discussions around quantification, participants could experience firsthand how fluorescence imaging is evolving from a qualitative tool towards an even more objective and measurable decision support.
It was encouraging to see such a strong focus on translating research into routine clinical practice and making implementation as smooth as possible for surgical teams.
The future of FGS will be shaped by both innovation and adoption: Green ORs are the future.
